Michael’s Lawn & Landscape was founded by Michael Mance of Anderson, SC in 1978. After marrying his wife Carol, he put a push lawnmower in the back of his Chevy Camaro – driving from neighborhood to neighborhood in search of work. Michael Sr. picked up every stick, cut every blade of grass, and gave every customer an honest day’s work.

Some weeks he would only make $25, but his hard work and faith in God grew the company to the point of needing his wife Carol and young daughter Michelle to help him complete the work. In the 1990’s, his two sons Michael and Samuel begin to train and learn every aspect of the business. After gaining experience in corporate America, they applied their project management, engineering, and corporate marketing skills to the family business. 

In 2020, the company officially moved from a sole proprietorship to a limited liability organization. Repeatable systems and processes were implemented to enhance scalability, and the company embraced modern marketing activities.

Today, Michael’s Lawn & Landscape, also known as Mance Lawncare, has begun training its 3rd generation – while positioning itself for future growth outside of the family.
